Even after all these years, it's still one of my favorite memories: coming groggily downstairs in the morning, putting on my headphones, and pressing PLAY. At 2:00 a.m., I thought something kind of remarkable was happening. Will it hold up in the light of day? There has been little in my life more satisfying than those times when the answer was…yes!

One problem, of course, was that what I could create with a synthesizer and four tracks of re-recordable tape didn't often translate into something I could perform by myself on an acoustic guitar. So, most of those "light-of-day" songs never made it out into the world.

But they weren't forgotten, and "walk in the sun" is a collection of my favorites. They’re actually more like sketches than songs—short, varied, electronic, acoustic, of an era, timeless. Something is captured, and then we move on.

The creation of music is a mystery to me. In the most fundamental way, I do not understand where it comes from. And working on these pieces again has only reinforced that sense of wonder. I hope you'll enjoy spending a little time pressing PLAY to see if you think—late in the evening, all those years ago—something special was happening.

Also, just like the music was originally created, "walk in the sun" was edited and (re)mixed on headphones. So, for the most authentic experience, dig through your basement and find some old and inexpensive ones to give it a listen.
